PODCASTING

George recently presented in class and posted on his blog:The Use of Podcasting For Web PR. It made me contemplate...Podcasting, a useful PR tool or an annoying audio element? Wondering if podcasting is a viable option for PR professionals to use? One member of our class suggested that podcasting is useful way of delivering information to people on the go. I agree with their view, but as a PR tool I am not sure if it is a method that would work for every company or product.

Great cartoon Hilary! :)
I’m also a bit sceptical when it comes to audio Podcasts as a PR tool. I think it could be a successful tool for a company if used as a long term strategy however. One example could be if a new technology company weekly published a podcast which gave the latest IT industry news collected from technology blogs. It might help establishing the company (reputation/brand) among a public highly interested in technology.

To do it on a weekly basis and trying to make it known (through blogs and search engine optimization etc), might take too much time and energy for some organisations, while for others it might be a winning concept.

Hi Mattias,

Thanks for your comment. I thought your suggestion regarding weekly podcast was a good idea. You are right; it might help establish the company reputation. It seems that for some industries and companies, Podcasting might be a useful tool. Maybe a method to try out on a trial basis and see why type of reaction it generates.
